West Chicago

Formally known as the Junction, West Chicago began as the first junction of railroad lines in Illinois. The birthplace of “Judge” Elbert Henry Gary, for whom Gary, Indiana is named, and of Josh Urban, more famously known as the WWF wrestler “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan. Truitt-Hoff Nature Preserve is also located in West Chicago and is one of the largest, best-preserved prairies in the Midwest.

The West Chicago Prairie as one of northern Illinois’ premier natural areas featuring plant diversity with over 600 plant and wildlife species. In addition to the natural options spanning great parks and forest preserves, West Chicago offers plenty to do with St. Andrews championship courses, Turtle Splash Park, the ARC Center complete with a Treehouse play area and a wide range of programs at the West Chicago Public Library.
